Colonial Color LandscapesAbout Us

Andrew and Chelsea Patton, along with their children, Noah, Evelyn and Elizabeth (Libby) have strong roots in Williamsburg, Virginia. We named our company Colonial Color as a tribute to our appreciation, love, and respect for our great country, state, and region. Colonial Color Landscapes emphasizes our passion for our community by providing the best possible customer service, landscaping design, and installation services. We are committed to strong values and working hard to exceed our customers’ expectations.

Our roots originated in the 1970s in a small town in Northern Ireland where Joel Patton, Andrew’s father, took a risk and opened up a little Garden Center with his dad, Joseph Patton, in the town of Dungannon Co. Tyrone. A community staple, Joel worked hard, hoping that one day his children would join him in the family business. That day came for Patton’s Nursery when Andrew joined his father at the Garden Center when he was just 14 years old.

For the next two years, Andrew would work at his family’s Garden Center after school until he graduated and became a full-time employee. Andrew was born with a passion for horticulture and even considered becoming a florist early on in his career. At a young age, Andrew understood that plants are living things, and we need to nurture them. Through growing, he learned the importance of proper planting and soil techniques. By the age of 17, Andrew was gaining experience working in the growing department, merchandising, retail, and purchasing. At the Garden Center, Andrew’s roots became more embedded, and his passion for all things nature soared!

In the early 2000s, the Patton’s hoped to find a new home in America with more opportunity. When they visited Williamsburg, VA, the Patton family knew they had found their new home and the perfect place to begin new roots. In the summer of 2005, the Patton’s formed the Ulster American Homestead Garden Center.

With the Homestead Garden Center quickly becoming a local staple, Andrew and his brother opened the Homestead Landscaping Division: they would operate their Landscaping Division for three years before having to shut it down as a result of the high demand at the Garden Center. Landscaping would remain a passion for Andrew with his goal to one day open his own Landscaping Company.

In 2014, Andrew, newly married, took another risk and moved to Washington State to work as a Purchasing Manager in Corporate America. Between 2014-2016 Andrew broadened his business skills and knowledge.

Consistent with Andrew’s and Chelsea’s intention of returning to Williamsburg to raise their family and open their own landscaping company, the Pattons returned to their home of Williamsburg. In the Spring of 2016, Andrew officially formed Colonial Color Landscapes while also welcoming his first child, Noah, into the family. Andrew realized he wanted to build a business rooted in integrity and honoring his roots: a company that they could proudly pass on to their children. This goal is why here at Colonial Color Landscapes, customer satisfaction is paramount. We aim to succeed through constant and positive communication and commitment to our customers for a job well done.
